The African Development Bank invites you to a virtual panel discussion within African trade in the era of COVID-19 – issues, challenges and the way forward as part of the broader Cultivate African dialogue.
While trade in agriculture within Africa has increased over the years, levels remain significantly below potential. The question therefore becomes whether the pandemic can be used as an opportunity to expand the intra-African trade in agriculture and create regional supply chains, as well as to expand it.
Other questions that need to be investigated include:
How has the pandemic exacerbated or mitigated the challenges to trade within Africa?
How can the African continental free trade area promote agriculture within Africa?
What kind of support do African governments, farmers and the private sector need to mitigate the impact of the pandemic?
Moderator:
Edwini Kessie, Director of the Division of Agriculture and Commodities at the World Trade Organization
Speakers:
The main purpose of the Cultivate African dialogue is to develop a joint partnership with several stakeholders to create a sustained and effective response that compares the adverse effects of the COVID-19 pandemic on food security and nutrition and food systems.
