More congratulations from African leaders continued in Washington following the election of Democratic candidate Joe Biden as the 46th President of the United States.
The latest messages come from Sudan, South Africa, Kenya, Libya, Ghana and Mauritania – all of which emphasize the need for joint cooperation between Africa and the USA.
In Khartoum, Sudanese Prime Minister Abdallah Hamdok said on Saturday: “On behalf of the Sudanese people, I congratulate Joe Biden and Kamala Harris on their election as President and Vice President.”
In his congratulations, Hamdok said he was looking forward to working closely with both to build the bridge of friendship and cooperation between the US and Sudan.
‘Sudanese are hopeful that the US President-elect Biden and the Vice-President-elect Kamala Harris will support the democratic transition in Sudan and the emerging civilian government, which faces major economic and political challenges.
He said the outgoing US government under Donald Trump took more than a year to remove Sudan from the terrorist list and forced Khartoum to normalize relations with Israel before the decision could take effect.
Many Sudanese who are not opposed to normalization say Trump humiliated their country when he linked it to the repeal of the designation of Sudan as a state sponsor of terrorism.
Sudan is waiting for the US Congress to restore its sovereign immunities that it has lost as a designated terrorist state.

Pule Mabe, spokesperson for the African National Congress (ANC), said the party also welcomed their victory, adding that the world must stand up to respect democracy and accept the new government.
The ANC has expressed the hope that the Biden-Harris government will take the lead in bringing about a global response to the coronavirus pandemic.
Harris will be the first female vice president of the United States and also the first female colored person to hold the post.
In Nairobi, President Uhuru Kenyatta described the landslide victory in the hard-hitting polls as proof of Americans’ confidence in the former vice president’s leadership, according to a statement issued Sunday at the Nairobi presidential office.
“Americans have spoken loud and clear through their voices by choosing a very experienced, colorfully decorated and longtime leader to become their next head of state,” Kenyatta said.
