The African Legal Support Facility and the African Natural Resources Center of the African Development Bank will present the virtual launch of the African Petroleum Legislation Atlas (APLA) pilot phase on 26 November 2020 at 13:00 GMT via Zoom.
The aim of the APLA project is to support African countries to maximize the benefits for petroleum resources by: (i) promoting transparency, accessibility and comparison of Africa’s petroleum laws; (ii) facilitate the preparation, review and implementation of petroleum laws; (iii) providing a vibrant database that will catalyze research and policy debates on legal and regulatory matters; and (iv) promote the development of local legal expertise regarding African petroleum laws.
As a forerunner to the development of the APLA platform that hosts petroleum laws, regulations and related legislation from all the countries on the continent, a pilot phase has been developed covering four countries: Congo, Chad, Ghana and Nigeria. The APLA pilot platform is available here https://www.a-pla.org/site/index
The APLA trial platform was populated by advanced law students who formed the Legal Research Team (LRT). The LRT was selected from a leading Afrikaans university with a specialized program in petroleum law. In order to populate the APLA pilot platform, the LRT has undergone training on the processing and analysis of petroleum laws and how to upload the laws and regulations on the platform.
