Mr Ebrima Faal

Director, Secretariat of the Operations Committee and Quality Assurance

The African Development Bank is pleased to announce the resettlement of Mr. Ebrima Appears as Director, Secretariat and Operations Committee (OPSCOM), effective October 1, 2020.

Mr. Faal, a Gambian citizen, has extensive expertise in banking operations, administration and strategy, developed over almost 25 years of service with the African Development Bank and the International Monetary Fund.

Mr. Faal was senior director of the rural office in Nigeria before his relocation.

He had previously been in other capacities at the Bank. Between 2014 and 2016, he was director of the office of the senior vice president of the African Development Bank, where he managed corporate performance and planning management and oversaw the operations. He was the regional director for the Southern African Resource Center (2011-2014).

Mr. Faal holds a bachelor’s degree in commerce, economics and accounting from Mount Allison University, Canada, and a master’s degree in economics from McGill University, Canada.

Me. Moono Mupotola

Country Manager appointed for Zimbabwe

The African Development Bank would like to announce that Moono Mupotola has been reappointed as Country Manager, Zimbabwe’s country office, with effect from 1 December 2020.

Me. Mupotola, a Zambian national, was director of the local integration co-ordination office until her recent appointment.

As Director of Regional Integration, Moono started and established the African Trade Fund and led the development of the regional integration strategy. She has provided advisory services on trade, investment, regional programs and multinational operations.

She joined the Bank in 2009 as Divisional Manager, Regional Integration and Trade and has more than 20 years of experience in development in Africa.

Prior to her appointment to the African Development Bank, Moono was the Regional Specialist for the Regional Office for Food and Agriculture in Zimbabwe (2006-2009), Trade Specialist at the SADC Trade Center in Botswana and Zimbabwe and Head of Division at the Ministry of Agriculture, Directorate Planning and Policy. in Namibia (1997-2002).

Me. Mupotola holds a BA degree from Bennington College, Vermont, USA; A Master of Philosophy at the University of Cambridge, UK; and graduate qualifications in leadership from Wharton Business School, USA, and in strategic management from Cranfield Business School, UK.

Dr. Josephine Waithira Ngure

Country Manager appointed for Tanzania

The African Development Bank would like to announce that Dr. Josephine Waithira Ngure has been reappointed as Country Manager for the Tanzania Country Office, which takes place on December 1, 2020.

Dr. Ngure, an auditor and a financial expert, brings extensive experience in infrastructure development, particularly in transportation, telecommunications, water and sanitation, finance and energy, to her new position.

Prior to her appointment as Country Manager, she was the Deputy Director – General for the Office for Local Development and Business Delivery in Southern Africa of the African Development Bank.

Dr. Ngure joined the African Development Bank in Abidjan 22 years ago and has held a number of senior positions in the Bank, including Chief Adviser to the Senior Vice President and Chief Adviser to the VP of Infrastructure, Private Sector and Regional Integration.

Dr. Ngure has a DPhil. Degree (Corporate Finance) and an MPhil. Degree (Finance and Marketing) from the University of Oxford (UK). She also holds a Bachelor of Commerce Degree (First Class) from Nairobi University (Kenya) and is a Certified Public Accountant (CPA, Kenya).

Dr Peninah Wanjira Kariuki

Chief Policy Adviser, Cabinet Office of the President

The African Development Bank is pleased to announce that Dr. Peninah Kariuki will be appointed as senior policy adviser, Cabinet Office of the President, on 1 December 2020.

Dr. Peninah Kariuki, a Kenyan citizen, is an economist with a 17-year career in the Bank. Prior to her appointment as Chief Policy Adviser, the President’s Cabinet Office, she was the Country Manager at the Bank’s Sierra Leone Office, a role she held in November 2017.

During her tenure, she oversaw a wide portfolio in various sectors, including energy, water and social sectors. She has led business development, coordination with development partners and policy dialogue with senior government officials.

Dr Kariuki joined the Bank in 2003 as a senior country economist and rose to the post of chief country economist in 2012. She has worked as a country economist in several countries, including Tanzania, Uganda, Seychelles, Botswana, eSwatini and Lesotho.

Prior to joining the African Development Bank, she worked at the Central Bank of Kenya’s Research Department, as a research economist and later as a research manager responsible for the Bank’s macroeconomic development publications.

Dr. Kariuki has a DPhil. Degree (Development Economics) from the University of Sussex, United Kingdom (1994), and an MPhil. Degree (Development Economics) from the University of Cambridge, United Kingdom (1987). She holds a BA in Economics (First Class Honors) from the University of Nairobi, Kenya (1983).
