2021 MTV Africa Music Awards go virtual

MTV Africa and MTV Base have announced the return of the continental flagship MTV Africa Music Awards (MAMAs) to be held on February 20, 2021.

The awards showcasing African culture, music and creativity are being held in a new virtual format in partnership with Uganda.

In a statement, the organizers say that the MAMAs will recognize and reward 2021 musicians, pioneers and those who shed light on the continent’s diverse talent and creativity by making a positive impact on African music and youth culture over the past year. .

The event will celebrate African talent in 20 award categories, including Best Man, Best Woman, Best Song and Best Collaboration.

The contribution of artists from Portuguese and French-speaking Africa is also recognized in the categories Best Lusophone and Best Francophone.

Additional new categories included are the MAMAs Generation Change Award, the best fan base, alone along with the best lockout performance and personality of the year. These new categories want to demonstrate MTV Base’s commitment to supporting the youth of Africa.

The category for the selection of the category is from October 2019 to October 2020. The nominees will be announced in December 2020 and fans will then vote online for their favorite stars.

The event will be broadcast live on MTV channels across several continents on 20 February 2021 as a MAMA-themed one-hour MTV World Stage feature.
