ADDIS ABEBA – Prime Minister Abiy Ahmed held talks with AU special envoys today informing them of the current law enforcement operation underway in the Tigary region against the TPLF clique, according to the prime minister’s office.
The Prime Minister received this morning the former President of Liberia, Ellen Johnson-Sirleaf, the former President of Mozambique, Joaquim Chissano, and the former President of South Africa, Kgalema Motlanthe – the designated special envoys of Cyril Ramaphosa, President of South Africa Africa and President of the African Union.
During the event, Prime Minister Abiy Ahmed expressed his sincere thanks to the President of the African Union, Cyril Ramaphosa, for the greatest concern and understanding shared in Ethiopia’s efforts to end impunity and bring the TPLF criminal clique to justice. .
According to the statement issued by the office, he also appreciated the special envoys for their visit to Ethiopia, as far as the elderly are concerned, and reiterated the well-meaning efforts of African brothers and sisters who are equally hopeful of a prosperous and stable Ethiopia.
Ethiopia appreciates this gesture and the firm commitment it shows to the principle of African solutions to African problems, he added.
During the discussion, Abiy informed the envoys about the background of Ethiopia’s rule of law that is currently underway in Tigray.
The prime minister elaborated on how patiently his government handles the challenges and destabilization agenda that the TPLF has orchestrated for more than two years.
He recounts the numerous efforts of the federal government to engage peacefully, and reiterates that the deliberate attack on the Northern Command of the National Army, which constitutes high treason under the Ethiopian Penal Code, was the last straw the federal government forced to act. to protect the constitutional order of the country.

The federal government’s greatest commitment to the protection and safety of civilians during the rule of law has shown that the national army has avoided fighting in cities and densely populated areas by defending rather rough terrain;
Establishment of a High Level Committee of Federal Stakeholders to Access and Respond to Essential Humanitarian Needs of Citizens in the Region;
Identification and announcement of a humanitarian aid route for the provision of essential resources to citizens in the region coordinated by the Ministry of Peace and in cooperation with UN agencies;
Willingness of the federal government to receive, rehabilitate, and flee civilians who have fled by setting up four camps set up to rehabilitate returned people before resettling them in their original territory;
Efforts are underway to operationalize the constitutionally established and multi-party provisional administration of Tigray in towns and cities under federal command to enable the provision of government services;
The determination to stop and execute the TPLF clique and their workers who also committed the crime against humanity in Maikadra;
Commitment to the rebuilding of public infrastructure destroyed by TPLF militia, including communications facilities;
Unwavering commitment of the federal government to create a democratic Ethiopia that includes everyone, without the domination or oppression of one group by another.
The Prime Minister also emphasized his great thanks to friends of Ethiopia who are working constructively during the federal government’s rule of law and his commitment to dialogue with civil society and community representatives in the regional state of Tigray as well as political parties legally within the area.
