Namibia disturbed by war in Ethiopia, Mozambique

Netumbo Nandi-Ndaitwah, Minister of International Relations and Cooperation, said Namibia was deeply concerned about the conflict in Ethiopia and Mozambique.

She said the country was concerned about the fighting that lasted nearly two weeks and destabilized Ethiopia, with reports of several deaths and displacement.

Namibia is further plagued by the Cabo Delgado civil war, which puts Mozambican army against militants seeking to establish an Islamic state in the SADC state.

Nandi-Ndaitwah expressed the government’s position on Friday during the bi – monthly information session of the diplomatic corps, which aims to inform foreign diplomats in Namibia about the country’s position on various world issues.

“The recent outbreak of conflict in Ethiopia, and the terrorist attacks in Mozambique are a real source of concern for stability on the continent, which requires collective action to maintain peace and order. We are encouraged to seize these developments local institutions, “said the minister, who is also Namibia’s deputy prime minister.

She said Africa had set itself on ‘Silence the Guns in 2020’, which unfortunately could not be realized this year. However, the minister said it remained a priority for Africa. Nandi-Ndaitwah told diplomats that Namibia was prepared to welcome international guests amid the Covid-19 pandemic, adding that the country offers a safe and unique tourist experience.

After establishing safe travel protocols and work procedures, she said Namibia, which is one of the most sparsely populated countries in the world, is a perfect escape to isolated, open spaces and endless horizons.
