Nigeria: Why We Don’t Advertise Job Vacancies Sometimes – FCC

The Federal Character Commission says it grants advertisement waivers to Ministries, Departments and Agencies when vacancies are few and not deserving of a newspaper advert.

The most senior director in the FCC, Vincent Onobun, at a media briefing in Abuja yesterday, was responding to allegations of job racketeering against the commission’s Executive Chairman, Muheeba Farida Dankaka.

Some commissioners had recently petitioned the Independent Corrupt Practices and other Related Offences Commission, alleging that executive director indiscriminately granted recruitment advert waivers to MDAs in breach of the FCC Act.

But Onobun explained: “Waivers are issued for exigency reasons such as requests from the health sector at the peak of the COVID-19 pandemic.”

He added that “they are issued not to advertise the vacancies but follow all other processes of recruitment.”
