Nigeria: FCT Rural Schools Still Shut Despite Resumption – PTA Chair

The Chairman of the Parent-Teacher Association (PTA) in the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Alhaji Usman Abubakar, has said many schools in rural communities which share borders with troubled communities in Niger State are yet to resume despite the FCTA directive on school resumption.

Abubakar, who spoke with City & Crime in Gwagwalada Area Council on Thursday, said, “Schools in the Yaba axis and some other communities that share boundaries with neigbouring villages in Niger State are still shut because reports coming from those axes over security threats as a result of the activities of bandits and kidnappers are quite worrisome.”

He noted that, “We expected that before resumption the government would have put in place security measures in these schools.”

He, therefore, appealed to the FCTA to liaise with community leaders in mobilising vigilantes to safeguard the affected rural schools in order to enable students and pupils to resume academic activities.
