Nigeria: Obaship Crisis – Abiodun Vows to Hunt Sponsors, Perpetrators of Killings

The Ogun State Governor, Dapo Abiodun, has vowed to go after the sponsors and perpetrators of the mayhem over the obaship in Agosasa town of Ipoka LGA.

Recall that violence erupted in the town at the weekend over the next Oja of Agosasa, which led to the death of at least one person, scores of others injured and property worth several millions of naira destroyed.

Governor Abiodun, in a statement on Wednesday by his spokesman, Kunle Somorin, condemned the violence and declared that anyone found culpable would be arrested and prosecuted according to the extant laws of the state.

The governor noted that Ogun had been known to be peaceful and serene for investment, saying his administration would not allow any individual or group to thwart the peace being enjoyed in the state.

Abiodun, who expressed dissatisfaction with the development, said there were legitimate channels through which obaship issues could be addressed without recourse to violence.

The governor, while calling for calm in the town, said he had directed the police to restore peace in the town, ensure normalcy and fish out those behind the violence with the view of prosecuting them.
