Nigeria: Cancer Day – NGO Urges Constant Check Ups

An NGO, Helpline Foundation for the Needy (HFN), has urged people, especially women, to go for constant cancer screening as a precaution against early death from the disease.

The President of HFN, Dr Jummai Ahmadu, who spoke to newsmen in Abuja while marking the World Cancer Day (WCD), said early detection helped in the control and preventing the spread of the disease.

While calling for the establishment of cancer testing centres by all tiers of government, Dr Jummai said the most promising approach to the control of cancer was commitment to prevention.

She said, “the effects of new treatments for cancer on mortality have been largely disappointing. Therefore, the most promising approach is national commitment to prevention.”
