More than 4,000 herdsmen have arrived Ladduga community in Kachia Local Government Area of Kaduna State following series of eviction threats issued to those of them residing in the Southern part of the country.
Daily Trust gathered that the herders arrived the community, presumed a haven for Fulani herders that have been displaced in crises within Southern Kaduna.
The Ardo of Ladduga, Ruguni Pate, could not be reached, but Mohammed Iliya, a resident, said the displaced persons were sacked from communities in the southern part of the country, adding that while some came in vehicles, others came by foot with their animals.
Iliya further said, “It is a pathetic situation, you will weep for them, especially the women and children. Some were killed, their animals and homes destroyed. Right now, most of them sleep in the open because we have no place to keep them and we expect more of them will come.”
He added that officials of the Kaduna State Emergency Management Agency (SEMA) visited the community to take their records, appealing to the authorities to send them relief materials.
The Assistant Director Operations of the Kaduna SEMA, Hussaini Abdullahi, who visited Ladugga, said the herders were over 4,000 and that they were still being profiled.
SEMA’s Executive Secretary, Abubakar Hassan, when contacted on phone, said until the profiling was completed he would not be able to give tangible information about the situation.
The state’s Chairman of Miyetti Allah Cattle Breeders Association of Nigeria (MACBAN), Haruna Usman Tugga, told Daily Trust that he was making plans to visit them and hear their stories.
