Nigeria: Tambuwal Signs Bills On Judiciary, Legislature Financial Autonomy

Governor Aminu Waziri Tambuwal of Sokoto State yesterday signed into law two bills that granted financial autonomy for legislative and judicial arms of government in the state.

Speaking, Tambuwal chided those blaming governors over the financial autonomy of these arms of government, reiterating that the Executive Order number 10 was inconsequential.

“Over the years, there have been unsubstantiated claims that governors don’t want financial autonomy for these arms of government.

“We all believe in the autonomy of these arms of government. We said it but the majority of people prefer to hear from the other side.

“No governor in Nigeria is against financial autonomy for legislature and judiciary, because it is a constitutional issue. We don’t need any executive order to implement the constitutional provision.

“The president was misguided into issuing executive order 10, because it is undemocratic, unconstitutional,” he said.

In his remarks, the Speaker of the State House of Assembly, Aminu Achida, said: “We are here to get assent to two bills on financial autonomy for Assembly and Judiciary in this very difficult time.”

He assured the governor of continuous support to deliver on his promises.
