Tunisia: Several Irregular Migration Attempts Foiled – MOI

Tunis/Tunisia — National guards deployed in various coastal regions foiled on Tuesday night, several irregular migration attempts.

They rescued 193 people from drowning and arrested 369 undocumented migrants, including foreigners, the Interior Ministry said on Thursday.

According to the same source, the National Guard units in Mahress, Mahdia, Sfax, Kerkennah and Djerba thwarted on Tuesday night, 12 irregular migration attempts and arrested 281 people.

Some 193 individuals had been rescued by the coastguards as their boat was about to sink, the Interior Ministry added. 147 of the latter are of different African nationalities. The others are Tunisians from the governorates of Gafsa, Medenine, Monastir, Nabeul, Kerkennah, Sidi Bouzid, Kasserine and Tunis, including five actively wanted by the police.

The Public Prosecutor’s Office ordered that the necessary measures be taken against them.
