Tunis/Tunisia — Joint Naval and Coastguard units rescued on Tuesday evening 53 Tunisian undocumented migrants who called for help after their boat broke down northeast of El Attaya (Kerkennah Island).
“Their boat was about to capsize,” a Defence Ministry press release reads.
Aged from 3 months to 53, the migrants admitted to setting off from Chebba (Mahdia) on October 17 in an attempt to illegally reach the European coasts.
They were taken to the Sfax port to be handed over to the National Guard units to take the necessary measures against them.
