Kenya: Former Kisumu County Official Who Stoned President Ruto’s Motorcade Jailed for Year

Kisumu — A former Kisumu County askari who was arrested in 2021 for stoning the motorcade of former Deputy President William Ruto has been jailed for one year with an option of Sh. 13,000 fine.

Wilson Aminda, who appeared at Winam law court before Senior Principal Magistrate Robert Owanda for the judgment had earlier denied the charges.

The court found him guilty of disrupting the rally by the former Deputy President who is now the President of Kenya at Kondele in November, 2021.

The court ruled that his action disrupted peace at the event and led to destruction of property.

Aminda who went underground after the incident in 2021 was arrested after he featured prominently in footage and photos at the scene.

Five vehicles in Ruto’s convoy were damaged when he was stoned by a group of youths as he made his way to Kondele at the height of campaigns.

During the Thursday court ruling, Aminda stood at the dock as the Magistrate read out the court’s verdict.

The court found him culpable for the destruction of the five vehicles belonging to the Government of Kenya.

“Aminda created a disturbance by pelting stones at a crowd in a political rally and at the DP’s motorcade there by maliciously destroying a special land cruiser REG GKB 263G, GKB 741J, and a Toyota Hilux,” read the court papers in part.

Aminda secured his freedom immediately Sh13,000 was paid and was driven to his house in Manyatta on motorcycles numbering over 10 by youths.
